The golden statue garnered widespread attention online as the Republican party grapples with deep divisions over the extent to which it will embrace Trump.

Rivera and Trump's friendship goes back decades, and he used to be an enthusiastic and vocal supporter of him in the Oval Office.

In his remarks, Mr. Trump is expected to dismiss concerns about a potential Republican civil war and express his belief that the party's grassroots are firmly in his corner, with just a handful of party leaders opposed to his continued oversight of the party. On his first day in office, he signed an executive order mandating an "ambitious whole-of-government equity agenda" created to address concerns about systemic racism and a lack of diversity in federal policy-making and hiring.

One possible target of his speech is House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who said Trump "bears responsibility" for the Capitol riot.

"We're going to get the majority back, we're five seats away", he said.

While some Republican lawmakers have expressed displeasure with Trump, the former president retains the strong backing of many state and local parties who have issued a string of censures to Republicans who did not support Trump in his impeachment trial. But Rivera had his fill of Trump's voter fraud allegations after he lost the 2020 presidential election to Joe Biden. "And we see it", Meadows told Fox News on Thursday.

Kimberly Guilfoyle, a former Fox News Channel host and Trump Jr.'s girlfriend, offered a pointed message to those who stand in opposition to the former president, who will not arrive at the conference until Sunday but was present in spirit in the form of a large golden statue erected in a merchandise show booth, where attendees could pose for pictures with it.

Trump has maintained that he won the 2020 election in his post-presidency interviews to date.

Trump did not explicitly mention Gonzalez's vote to impeach him.

The conference gives Trump an opportunity to broadcast his message to the Republican Party, a task that has become more hard to do since his medium of choice, Twitter, suspended his account following the Capitol siege.

Several members of the Trump government and some collaborators with him are also on the agenda, including Mike Pompeo, former Secretary of State, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a former White House press secretary.

Trump has kept a relatively low profile since he left the White House on January 20.

Senior Trump adviser Jason Miller told Axios that the former president plans to remain a force in the GOP's future.
