Newman, who is also a freshman congresswoman, gave an impassioned speech on the House floor in support of transgender rights.

Newman tweeted a video of herself hoisting the flag with a message for her GOP counterpart. Now, she is taking the fight up in the government, attempting to protect the LGBTQ community from discrimination.

In addition to hanging an anti-trans sign outside of Newman's office on Wednesday, Greene also tweeted a personal attack that refused to refer to the IL congresswoman's daughter as a woman. The second best time is right now. Now, Newman has responded by what can only be described as trolling.

In another tweet on her personal page, she posted a video of her remarks, writing: "The so-called 'Equality" Act is disgusting, immoral, and evil.

Who is Newman's daughter Evie Newman?

House members from the newly-elected 117th Congress are set to vote this week on the anti-discrimination bill, which Newman said she would vote to pass in honor of her own daughter who is transgender. The 19-year-old is now a freshman at DePaul University and transitioned five years ago. After attending a therapeutic program, she came out as transgender.

Newman told CNN Thursday that she found Taylor Greene's decision to put up the sign "kind of wild on a bunch of fronts". However, Evie was severely bullied at school, inspiring Newman to become an advocate for LGBTQ rights. That allowed Newman to win the support of several LGBTQ groups like Human Rights Campaign during her run for Illinois' third district.

Her outspoken activism is often cited as a key factor contributing to her victory in 2020 against Democrat Dan Lipinski, who is known for his anti-LGBTQ stance. "But your biological son does NOT belong in my daughters' bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports teams".

"And that's just another indication that while America, by broad super majorities, thinks it's wrong to fire LGBT people just because of who we are or who we love, it's not even controversial among most people in America right now. here in Washington, in that Republican caucus, only three - only three out of more than 200 would support equality for LGBT Americans so I hope people understand this is a caucus that is dangerously out of step with where the American people are on this, the pandemic, and other things".

The tweet came with a video of the congresswoman showing the proximity of her office to Greene's, then the Illinois Democrat is shown placing the flag outside her office and brushing her hands together with a smirk.

Anyway, Greene has been in something of a spat with Democratic Congresswoman Marie Newman in recent days.

Greene retaliated yesterday by putting up a sign reading: "There are TWO genders: MALE and FEMALE. No one is buying it, and that is not science", she added.

"Without the Equality Act, this nation will never live up to its principals of freedom and equality", Newman said on the House floor Wednesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, Newman, a Democrat from suburban Chicago, took to the House floor urging for the passage of the Equality Act, which would prohibit discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

The exchange quickly went viral, leading critics to accuse Greene of cruelty directly aimed at Newman's family - the latest bit of outrage spurred by a House member who has espoused QAnon's baseless theories and falsely suggested that former president Donald Trump's supporters were not present at the January 6 Capitol riot.

Republicans oppose the bill, calling it a legislative overreach and a violation of First Amendment rights on the grounds of freedom of religion.

Republicans argue the bill would force religious organisations to violate their beliefs.
