The NYSBA is a voluntary bar association that can not exclude Giuliani, the former USA attorney for the Southern District of NY and who is now President Donald Trump's personal attorney, and thus the removal will not prevent him from representing the President in Impeachment trial Or other lawsuits pending against him. "Hours before the angry mob stormed the Capitol walls, Trump's personal attorney Rudolph Giuliani addressed a crowd of thousands at the White House, reiterating baseless claims of widespread election fraud".

The move against Giuliani by the New York Bar Association followed in its wake by calls from Democratic members of Congress, US Reps.

Giuliani did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Guiliani, a former USA attorney for the Southern District of NY and a partner at various white shoe law firms, has served as President Donald Trump's personal lawyer throughout his time in office.

"This decision is historic for the New York Business Agency, and it was not easy to make", read a statement from the New York State Bar Association. "But the president did not act alone", the association said Monday in a statement. The association noted Giuliani's now-notorious suggestion, "Let's have trial by combat", before the riots that resulted in five deaths.

"If we are wrong, we will be fools", Giuliani said at a rally on Wednesday, "but if we are right, many of them will go to prison".

In almost 60 court cases, Republican and Democratic judges have tossed cases brought by Giuliani, the Trump campaign and other GOP allies.

But the NYSBA, along with Association of the Bar for the City of NY, are prominent groups that speak for the state's legal community.

"From my point of view, they [Trump's attorneys] intentionally misled the state senators, the people of Georgia and the people United States about this, to cause this conspiracy theory to keep going and keep the disinformation going, which has caused this environment that we're seeing today", Sterling said.

"NYSBA has received hundreds of complaints in recent months about Mr Giuliani and his baseless efforts on behalf of President Trump to cast doubt on the veracity of the election and, after the votes were cast, to overturn its legitimate results", the statement continues.

"Mr. Giuliani will be provided due process and have an opportunity - should he so choose - to explain and defend his words and actions", it added. "We can not stand idly by and allow those intent on rending the fabric of our democracy to go unchecked", NYSBA said.

"Their subsequent attack on the Capitol was nothing short of an attempted coup, meant to prevent the peaceful transition of power", the organization added, saying Giuliani "will be provided due process and have an opportunity - should he so choose - to explain and defend his words and actions".
