Former actress Jessica Campbell, known for her role as Tammy Metzler in Election, is dead at 38. At this time, her cause of death is still unknown.

Her last acting credit was in 2002, before she decided to make a career shift to become a naturopathic physician.

Her cousin Sarah Wessling said Jessica had worked a normal day seeing patients at her practice before her tragic death.

Sarah also said the Election star had returned home to visit her mother and aunt on the day she died.

Her aunt then found Jessica collapsed on the floor after going to check on her.

TMZ stated both the aunt and the called paramedics attempted to revive Campbell but were unable to do so.

Campbell's family told TMZ Campbell had been complaining of congestion in the lead-up, though they ruled out Covid-19.

The autopsy results are set to arrive soon.

Campbell's Election co-star, Reese Witherspoon, tweeted about the news of her death, writing, "So heart broken to hear this".

In the film, she played Tammy Metzler, the sister of school jock Paul whose girlfriend leaves her to start seeing Paul.

Jessica's performance in Election earned her an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Debut Performance.

Following Freaks and Geeks, Campbell went on to star opposite Glenn Close in The Safety Of Objects.

She went on to star in more films including The Safety of Objects and Junk before she chose to quit her acting career. "Heartbreaking news. My deepest sympathy to her son and the rest of her family".

Election director Alexander Payne and Freaks and Geeks executive producer Judd Apatow were among the top donors listed on the GoFundMe - and there has been no shortage of tributes to Campbell.
