COVID-19 has also undoubtedly had an effect on the development experience, with the game likely needing the extra time to substitute for the development now taking place at home.

Hopefully we'll still get to see more of the game this year.

Warner Bros Entertainment Inc pushed back the release of Hogwarts Legacy, the hotly anticipated video game set in the Harry Potter universe, until 2022. This game was all set to launch sometime this year, but a delay in the Hogwarts Legacy release date has just been announced. The game had been scheduled for release in 2021, but will now be another 12 months in the making.

In a statement posted on the game's Twitter account, the developer stated that the team needed all of the time to create the Wizarding World that gaming fans deserve.

Hogwarts Legacy will be released in 2022. J.K. Rowling is not involved in the project, which is exclusively overseen by Portkey Games, a new division created to oversee interactive Harry Potter experiences.

Experience a new story set at Hogwarts in the 1800s. You play as a student of Hogwarts who "holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart". Make allies, battle Dark wizards and decide the fate of the wizarding world.

During Septembers PS5 event we saw the first trailer for Hogwarts Legacy.
