"Imperfect but determined. He has been fortunate enough to live many lives within his concentration. Keep shining your light on us".

His performance in his final role, playing an ambitious trumpeter in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom alongside Oscar victor Viola Davis, was honoured at the Gotham Awards on Monday evening. He was not limited to tell the truth: he actively sought it in himself and in those around him.

In the TV categories, Michaela Coel's I May Destroy You was named breakthrough series (short format) while the long format category was won by Watchmen.

Holland, who worked with Boseman in acclaimed sports drama 42, said, "There was an acknowledgment in his face that his light would never be the same and there was also this clarity in his eyes that he was ready to meet that moment and many more".

Taylor Simone Ledward, Chadwick's widow, was the one to accept the award in his name and she remembered him in a touching speech.

Ending the speech and accepting the award, Ledward said: "Chad, thank you". "Chad, thank you", says Simone Boseman.

The Black Panther actor, who died from colon cancer in August at age 43, was honored at the event with the Actor Tribute Award.

"He didn't just stop at speaking the truth", she continued. He realized that when one is able to recognize that when their strength does not come from themself, they rarely mess up. "Modelling for us a path to true fulfilment".

Riz Ahmed, who won the prize for his role as a drummer who goes deaf in Sound of Metal, also paid tribute to Boseman as he accepted his honour.

The Chloe Zhao-directed Nomadland was named best feature, solidifying its position as an Oscars front-runner.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom actress Davis and British filmmaker Sir Steve McQueen also received awards.

Nomadland, starring Frances McDormand, was the big victor at the 30th annual Gotham Awards.

The ceremony, held at Cipriani Wall Street in NY, was attended by a select few individuals because of the ongoing COVID-19 safety regulations and introduced a hybrid-virtual ceremony to list off the night's winners.
