Charli D'Amelio has been losing followers ever since her family posted a YouTube video of them sitting down for dinner with beauty influencer James Charles.

In a video, she said: "My family and I have been working with Chef Aaron May for a couple of months now, working on content for our channel and working on content for his channel, and [we've] made an unbelievable friendship".

Later in the video, Dixie, 19, spotted a snail on her plate.

May confirmed it was a snail, that it was a classic ingredient in paella, and said it was "an omen of good luck and fortune".

During an Instagram Live on Thursday, D'Amelio broke down in tears as she attempted to clarify their actions.

After the video was posted, Charli and Dixie began being "cancelled" as fans branded them "rude", "ungrateful" and "lacking manners".

"All of this is happening because [of] a misunderstanding", she tearfully explained, as quoted by Us Weekly.

"Before I even get into anything, I'm so grateful for every single person that follows me, every single person I care about, every single person I work with, every single person who works with me because I'm just so grateful for all of the opportunities I've had".

Amid the backlash, Dixie issued an apology on TikTok, saying in a video, "My family and I have been working with Chef Aaron May for a couple of months now, working on content for our channel and working on content for his channel, and [we've] made an fantastic friendship".

"I guess yesterday there was a bunch of drama with other people, not involving me, but people still want to mention my name".

Charli D'Amelio (L) and Dixie D'Amelio arrive at iHeartRadio's Z100 Jingle Ball 2019 at Madison Square Garden on December 13, 2019, in New York City. The siblings have lost hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok since the video's release on Monday, November 16.

With 98.4 million followers, Charli D'Amelio is the top creator on TikTok.

"Ugh. I wish I had more time", she said, to which he retorted: "Was the 95 million not enough for you?"

Dixie previously tried to defend herself on Wednesday in a TikTok video. Behind the scenes, the team decided to make Dixie eat a snail to try and get a reaction from her.

"Basically, that clip, that wasn't in the original video, is my team, and chef Aaron May trying to convince me to try snail, knowing that I would have a reaction". Like I said, somebody thought it would be amusing to feed them snails, and they reacted the way they reacted.

Charles, 21, also took to Twitter and defended the girls. "I love Chef, and I would never disrespect him in any way".
