The former child star, whose breakout role came at the age of 12 opposite Jodie Foster in Panic Room, has become one of the most respected and versatile actors of her generation thanks to dramas including Still Alice and Clouds of Sils Maria and action blockbusters such as Snow White and the Huntsman and last year's reboot of Charlie's Angels.

Read her full interview HERE. As well, she shares how the industry may be able to change how these roles are portrayed in the future. Asked if she drew inspiration from Stewart's real-life style, the stylist said Stewart was "playing a character", not herself.

While Abby had been all set to propose on this trip, she finds herself put up alone in the basement bedroom and explained away as Harper's orphaned flatmate, invited out of pity. So, the couple must pretend to be straight and platonic friends in front of Harper's parents.

Kristen Stewart thinks it's OK for straight actors who are allies to the LGBT+ community to play gay characters - as long as they do the work. "In one case I remember a flight attendant saying [her brother was gay and had AIDS] and she said, 'Because of that movie, our whole family was with him when he passed. As a filmmaker, I want to make movies that have a greater social impact, where you can go in and be really entertained, but where people who are not represented as much in film can feel seen in a genre where they have felt invisible".

But the road that Happiest Season takes to get there is spiked with just enough melancholy and hardness to acknowledge the holidays aren't all soft and cozy good times, no matter what Hallmark might try to tell you. "Just the physicality that Kristen brings to her character, and there's a certain way she just puts on a pair of trousers and she just stands in a certain way-that's just very wonderful", she added, to laughter from everyone in the room. For her, the situation is a "gray area" with a lot of different factors to consider. Calling the conversation a "slippery slope', she said, "I could never play another straight character if I'm going to hold everyone to the letter of this particular law".

"I was a little bit nervous, but at the same time I believed in the story so much that I was just like "if I don't think about trying to be amusing, it might just end up being pretty funny".

"It's such an exciting prospect, a gay Christmas rom com backed by Sony, no less", Stewart says. There are ways for men to tell stories about women or ways for women to tell stories about men. 'But we need to have our finger on the pulse and actually have to care. "When you step into that scene you know-this is a Christmas movie, everything people love about the holidays, and welcome to our world". I mean, if you're telling a story about a community and they're not welcoming to you, then fuck off.
