India is now witnessing a steady decline in cases from its peak in September, with the country reporting fewer than 50,000 daily new infections during the last 13 days. The positivity rate stands at 4.2 per cent while the total recovery rate is 93.68 per cent.

Till 8 am on Wednesday, the Union Health Ministry had confirmed 89,12,907 COVID-19 cases, including 1,30,993 deaths, 4,46,805 active cases, and 83,35,109 recoveries.

Delhi accounted for 22.39 per cent of the fatalities reported across the country due to the coronavirus infection in a span of 24 hours by recording 131 deaths and became the largest contributor to the single-day COVID-19 deaths in India, the health ministry said on Thursday. For the second time within the last seven days, active cases in the country did not register a decline on Friday, another sign that the pandemic could be rising again.

The western city of Ahmadabad late on Thursday announced an indefinite night curfew after reporting an uptick in cases following the Diwali festival weekend. In the last 24 hours, 44,807 patients have recovered from Corona.

India is only the second country to cross 9 million coronavirus infections, after the United States, but cases have slowed down in the country after hitting a peak in September. Delhi registered 6,901 recoveries while Maharashtra reported 6,608 new recoveries, according to the health ministry.

Kerala also reported a staggering 6,419 new cases.

Sixty-three million Indians came into contact with Covid-19 by mid-September, according to a sero-survey conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), indicating an infection rate ten times higher than official figures at the time. The death toll has climbed to 7,820, while 4,07,769 patients have recovered from COVID-19.

Globally, there are 58,494,754 cases and 1,386,570 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
