The film portrays Hudson as Zu, a recently sober drug dealer, who is now the guardian of her younger sister, Music, who is played by Ziegler. Through fantastical musical sequences, she paints an alternative world for Music, Zu, Ebo, and their community. To accompany the release, the singer also released single "Hey Boy", as well as a new trailer for Music, starring Maddie Ziegler and Kate Hudson, on social media.

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Sia has finally released the first teaser trailer for her forthcoming directorial debut film titled Music, featuring Golden Globe victor Kate Hudson as she tries to take care of her teenage half-sister who has autism. One reason is not having an autistic actor playing an autistic character, making it just one of many, many instances where Hollywood wants to tell stories about marginalized people but instead casts abled actors instead of actors who have those disabilities.

Sia won't face the music surrounding her new movie. "Special abilities is what I've always said, and casting someone at her level of functioning was cruel, not kind, so I made the executive decision that we would do our best to lovingly represent the community".

"It's a mighty shame that someone with such a colossal platform is using it to exclude disabled and neuro diverse actors from their own narratives", tweeted one fan. She said, "My heart has always been in the right place". Sia said the group came on board after the film was finished.

Sia then explained she "actually tried working with...a lovely young girl non verbal on the spectrum" and the actress "found it unpleasant and stressful", which is why she cast Ziegler.

ABC News/Frame GrabSia is hitting back at people who are criticizing her movie before they've even seen it. "So that's why I cast Maddie". "He found it too stressful being non-verbal, and I made this movie with nothing but love for him and his mother".

Music is written, directed and produced by Sia.

Sia and Maddie Ziegler perform at KeyArena on September 29, 2016 in Seattle.
