Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is set to stay fat the club despite latest reports linking him with a move away from the club.

Matthijs de Ligt made his first appearance of the season as Juventus defeated Cagliari 2-0.

The win enabled Andrea Pirlo's unbeaten side to close the gap to leader AC Milan to one point, with Milan playing at Napoli on Sunday.

"We needed a match like this", said Pirlo.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Atalanta was held to a 0-0 draw at Spezia and Lazio beat bottom side Crotone 2-0.

Juve dominated from the beginning and Federico Bernardeschi saw his goal disallowed in the 11th minute as Alvaro Morata was offside in the build-up.

Atalanta are sixth, level on points with seventh-placed Lazio after eight games.

The Old Lady broke the deadlock in the 38th minute as Ronaldo cut inside from the left before firing an unstoppable shot.

Ronaldo doubled his tally four minutes later after a corner was flicked onto him by Merih Demiral.

In Calabria, Ciro Immobile scored on his return from coronavirus isolation with his 21st-minute diving header paving the way for victory for Lazio on a waterlogged pitch in southern Italy.

Lazio's match was at risk of being postponed after torrential downpours and flash flooding in the area.

Argentine Correa fired in his first league goal this season from a tight angle through the legs of Crotone goalkeeper Alex Cordaz.

Atalanta and Spezia both struggled in a match of few chances.

Diego Farias hit the woodwork for Spezia with Atalanta's Duvan Zapata denied by the post before the break.
