If travellers receive a negative test within a 72-hour window prior to departure, Hawaii will allow passengers to disembark without the need to quarantine.

Those who arrive without having their negative test results before departure will not be able to skip quarantine, even if their negative results become available shortly after they arrive.

Since the pandemic began, Hawaii has recorded almost 17,000 positive cases and 222 deaths from COVID-19.

"We're adding this safety precaution now in response to the dramatically increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the continental United States and around the world", he said. Travelers without proof of a negative test result prior to boarding their flight to Hawai'i will be required to self-quarantine for 14-days or the length of stay, whichever is shorter. Hawaii normally experiences an increase in visitors during the time period many Americans have time off from work and school.

The new pre-travel testing program for Canadians is part of the comprehensive Safe Travels Hawaii program, which was launched on October 15. The program provides a pre-travel testing option to give travellers an alternative option to Hawaii's mandatory 14-day quarantine.

Anyone flying to Hawaii will be required to have a negative COVID-19 test result prior to their departure for the state, with the new rule going into effect two days before Thanksgiving, Governor David Ige announced on Thursday. "We look forward to welcoming our friends and family from Canada and appreciate the efforts of WestJet and Air Canada to make the process as safe and smooth as possible".

"We welcome Gov. Ige's announcement today designating Air Canada as one of Hawaiʻi's Trusted Travel partners and extending the State of Hawaiʻi's pre-travel testing program to Air Canada's customers".

Air Canada has routes from Vancouver to Maui and Honolulu starting on December 17 and routes from Calgary to Maui starting the next day.

7,217 passengers in quarantine (non-trusted travel partner or incorrect type of test). Alberta residents may be eligible to participate in the joint Government of Canada and Government of Alberta pilot project to test arriving residents as part of reducing quarantine. "It's really exciting for us to know that Hawaii really is the very first place that is a safe corridor for travel from Canada". Please, do this. You must do this, otherwise you will face 14-day quarantine.
