Karnataka well prepared for Covid-19 vaccine delivery: Minister

American drugmaker Pfizer, presently in the news for its Covid-19 vaccine candidate, has distanced itself from an alleged "vaccine tourism" advertisement doing the rounds on social media.

Moscow's Gamaleya Research Institute, which serves under the Russian health ministry, said in a release that global markets will be able to purchase the serum for $10 per dose, with patients requiring two.

On dry storage facility, Dr Sudhakar said that the government has begun the process to assess the required dry storage space for the vaccine programme.


The jab is still undergoing post-registration trials, with more than 19,000 out of the 40,000 participating volunteers having received both doses of either the vaccine or placebo so far.

Speaking on the measures initiated for vaccine delivery and distribution, the minister said the government has identified 29,451 session sites (vaccination sites) and 10,008 vaccinators as per the norms of the Universal Immunisation Programme.


Developers plan to produce 2 million doses of the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine by the end of 2020. Tedros said 187 countries were now on board.

However, it is struggling to raise the funds needed to provide for the 92 low-income countries and other economies that quickly signed up.

Anxious that the poorest and most vulnerable countries will be trampled in the stampede for vaccines, World Health Organization established the Access to Covid-19 Tools Accelerator to support global efforts in developing vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics, and has joined so far 187 countries in the COVAX facility to collaborate on the procurement and roll out of vaccines, ensuring affordable prices, volumes and timing for all countries.


Leaders at the virtual G20 summit said Sunday they would "spare no effort" to ensure fair distribution of coronavirus vaccines, but the united front was punctured by Angela Merkel who voiced concern about slow progress.
