Mr. Biden allies also indicated he could announce his selection for secretary of state as soon as this week, with former national security adviser Susan Rice and veteran diplomat Antony Blinken seen as among the candidates.

Mr Biden's choice as White House chief of staff, Ron Klain, has urged that the Trump administration formally recognise his victory for the transition process. "He's had a terrific record and I think that people, just like with my grandfather in 1960 and even with George HW Bush in 1992 would say that, "You know what, maybe we made a mistake, maybe we should continue with President Trump", and I think that there's a historical analogy there that will serve him very well", Cox, who is a New York-based lawyer, added. He tweeted later that the president should "stop golfing and concede".

A few hours later the President had departed the White House on his way to his namesake golf club outside Washington DC. On Saturday, Mr Trump skipped a session on the pandemic.

Republican Senator Kevin Cramer told NBC's "Meet the Press" program that the start of the presidential transition process is overdue, though he declined to recognize Mr. Biden's victory.

Some of Mr. Trump's fellow Republicans in Congress are now breaking ranks though many, including the most senior ones, have not.

In a statement following the decision, the Trump campaign vowed to take their case to the Supreme Court.

"No one has come up with any evidence of fraud or abuse" he said.

Brann ruled that the campaign is essentially asking the court "to disenfranchise nearly seven million voters", using "strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations. unsupported by evidence".

The state's 20 electoral votes would not have been enough on their own to hand Trump a second term.

States' certification of results of their popular votes is usually routine following a USA presidential election.

They requested a two-week delay to allow a full audit of results in Wayne County.

Pennsylvania Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar and the seven Biden-majority counties that the campaign sued had argued Mr Trump had previously raised similar claims and lost.

MI is set to certify its results on Monday.

Michigan's Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has said that audits can not be conducted until after certification because officials do not have legal access to the documents needed until then.

There is no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.

He warned that it's important for Democrats to try to understand why people voted for Trump, because it will be "hard to get big stuff done if the country is this polarised".

Other Democrats have been unsparing in their criticism.

He told reporters on Thursday (local time) that he's already decided on who will lead the Treasury Department.

"It is the absolute responsibility of the outgoing team" to provide such information, Ms Power said.
