The studio released a new video today showcasing the new features of the in-house engine called Glacier.

Water effects have also been enhanced so that walking through puddles gives more realistic ripples, droplets will bounce off Agent 47's shiny noggin, and he'll actively get wet in the environment. Hitman III will, we're told, also support more than 300 active NPC AIs at the same time - which means Chongqing will be one of Hitman's liveliest locations to date. The rainy, neon-lit streets of Chongqing, however, make a ideal demo location for this.

Hitman 3 is an upcoming stealth game developed and published by IO Interactive. Naturally, the neon lights make the game ideal for HDR which the game will support as well as 4K and 60FPS on the next-gen consoles.

Fans who purchase the title on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and "newer PCs" will be treated to other enhancements that add to the experience's visual capabilities. PC players with 8+ core CPUs can expect even bigger crowds and more "destructibility" in levels.

Hitman 3 will be officially released on January 20, 2021. The PC version will use Variable Rate Shading, and IO will be implementing ray tracing sometime after launch. IO Interactive has yet to detail if the Hitman 1 and 2 locations are in the Switch version too, but since they're offered for free to "existing owners", maybe it's unlikely. As the announcement points out, the original Hitman: Codename 47 used revolutionary ragdoll physics and animation that set a standard for the gaming industry.
