Haaland's father, Erling, who was also a professional footballer (among others, played for Manchester City), gave an interview to the German channel Sport1 in which he talked about the future of Borussia Dortmund's fashionable scorer.

Haaland has established himself as arguably the most exciting young talent in world football following a stunning breakthrough last season, with the Norwegian having been named as the victor of the 2020 Golden Boy award as the best player aged 21 or under in Europe.

Haaland's father went on to add that Man Utd and Dortmund are two very traditional clubs with a large fan base and a glorious history. Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies came third while Haaland's Dortmund teammate Jadon Sancho took the fourth spot.

Erling Haaland scored 44 goals in all competitions last season.

The Norwegian has joined an elite list of company to win the Golden Boy award.

Past winners include Lionel Messi, Wayne Rooney and Kylian Mbappe, with Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix having claimed the award a year ago.

Haaland burst onto the scene with RB Salzburg in the Champions League last season, scoring 8 goals in the 6 group stage matches. At the moment it is not in my son or in my head that another club will compete for him.

"We signed a long-term contract with Dortmund and the this is a fantastic team for Erling at the moment". We don't want to look any further yet.

Haaland father: You never know what will happen. I think he would like to win some titles with Dortmund. Moving overseas is not a priority for us.

Some would argue a switch to Manchester United would be a step down at this point, with Dortmund competing for the Bundesliga title, regulars in the Champions League and, crucially, experts at developing young talent.

"I sometimes think he wants to and can assert himself in any league".

"He just wants to be a better player and doesn't look too far ahead".
