Ketchum's 1991 album Past the Point of Rescue is his most commercially successful, having been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. This short message discloses that Hal Ketchum - who'd battled Alzheimer's "for some time" before retiring from performing in April of 2019 - "passed away peacefully last night at home" in Nashville, Tennessee.

In April 2019, Hal's wife revealed that the musician had been diagnosed with early onset senile dementia. When he released it as a single it went to number two in the Billboard Country charts and became the most played country song in 1992.

In Oxford's Encyclopedia of Country Music, contributor Clark Parsons likens Ketchum's folksy yet intellectually rich material to that of Mary Chapin Carpenter.

In 1998, the country star was diagnosed with neurological disorder acute transverse myelitis, which forced him to re-learn simple tasks such as how to walk and play the guitar all over again. "To HAL's fans, first and foremost, your love and support support him with your sweet comments and stories".

County music artist Hal Ketchum has died of complications from dementia, his wife, Andrea, announced in a Facebook post.

Originally from NY, the country legend released 11 studio albums throughout his decade spanning career.

"May his music live on forever in your hearts and bring you peace", she writes on Facebook. He had such a distinctive voice and way of delivering a song. "So many people came together to selflessly help honor Hal and create a fund for his future care as we get through this thing called life", his wife said back then. If you watch the video and you think we must have had a lot of fun you'd be correct.

"Hal was one of the nicest guys I've ever known". He will be missed.

"My heart is breaking for the family of Hal Ketchum".
