Trump reaches final debate with Biden lagging in polls

In that way, this is Trump's last chance to show voters he's the better candidate for the job he holds.

Just before the announcement, a letter sent by Bill Stepien, Campaign Manager of the Trump Administration, condemning the commission's previously announced selection of debate topics, stated: "It is completely unacceptable for anyone to wield such power, and a decision to proceed with that change amounts to turning further editorial control of the debate over to the Commission which has already demonstrated its partiality to Biden".

The commission responsible for organising the debates has changed the rules for the last match-up, muting one candidate's microphone so the other has two minutes of uninterrupted time to initially answer the moderator's questions.

The second presidential debate, which was meant to take place last week, was cancelled after Trump declined to participate when it was moved to a remote format due to his coronavirus diagnosis.

What is more likely is that the debate will help a limited set of voters decide whether they're done with Trump and comfortable with Biden or whether they will look past Trump's flaws because they think Biden isn't right for the job.

Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said the president would bring up Biden's long record in politics, as well as his family's business dealings. After the first four minutes of each segment, both of their microphones will be open by event production staff, Fahrenkopf said.

"There is probably nothing President Trump can do in terms of attacking Biden that he didn't already try in the first debate", Steel said.

Trump comes into the final debate trailing Biden in the polls.

The Commission on Presidential Debate (CPD), which is in charge of organizing these events in the country, announced past Friday the meeting will have six issues to debate: the fight against Covid-19, United States families, race, climate change, homeland security and leadership.

"The Trump campaign is lying about that now because Donald Trump is afraid to face more questions about his disastrous COVID response". The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll showed Biden ahead by nine points nationally, down from 12 points during the first week of October. Yahoo News will also host a special broadcast at 8:50 p.m. ET to preview the debate and will air a post-debate show to provide analysis and reactions.

The Trump campaign made an 11th-hour demand that the debate focus on foreign policy, as opposed to the topics chosen by the moderator, NBC News White House Correspondent Kristen Welker, though the campaigns agreed months ago to allowing the moderator to choose the topics.
