The 'Borat' Sequel: How Rudy Giuliani Is Defending His Unwitting Cameo

With the character's trademark "mankini" replaced by a surgical mask, the plastic Kazakh was towed across Lake Ontario on Thursday as a promotional stunt for actor Sacha Baron Cohen's new cinematic outing: Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.

After Bakalova interviewed Giuliani - in a fawning set-piece created to look like a right-wing appreciation of the former New York City mayor - Cohen rushes in as Giuliani lays back on the hotel room bed, shouting: "She's 15".

"Upon learning after giving the interview that the movie was actually a comedy meant to mock the Holocaust and Jewish culture, Ms Evans was horrified and upset", reads the lawsuit filed by her daughter and seen by AFP.

Giuliani spoke about a report in The Hollywood Reporter from July about the interview. "I thought about all the people he previously fooled and I felt good about myself because he didn't get me", Giuliani told the publication, adding he was a "fan of some of his movies".

"I only later realized it must have been Sacha Baron Cohen", he continues. And it seems to put the attorney in a questionable position.

The scene with Mr Giuliani sees him being interviewed in a hotel room about the Trump administration's response to the coronavirus outbreak. Giuliani says the situation was taken out of context.

He continued: "Now let me tell you why I know this is a hit job that happens because, it's not an accident that it happens that I turn in all this evidence on their prince and darling Joe Biden who's one of the biggest crook in the last thirty years, and since I have the courage to say that I'm the target". "I am tucking my shirt in, I assure you, that's all that I was doing", he said.

Referring to that clip, Mr Giuliani tweeted: "At no time before, during, or after the interview was I ever inappropriate".

"My aim here was not to expose racism and anti-Semitism", Cohen said of the sequel in a recent interview with the New York Times.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm premieres on Amazon Prime Video on October 23.
