Ahead of Thursday's dueling town halls, which came about after the president declined to participate in a virtual debate with Biden, Trump campaign senior adviser Jason Miller predicted that "we're gonna have a much bigger audience than Joe".

"That was an opinion of someone, and that was a retweet", Trump said.

Joe Biden promised to reverse President Donald Trump's executive orders that sidelined the pro-transgender policies imposed by former President Barack Obama.

"You don't know if you took a test the day of the debate?" she asked.

At times, Trump sounded angry and irate as Guthrie grilled him over the details of his testing results, his failure to immediately condemn white supremacists and his trafficking of conspiracy theories.

Biden, in response, said he would "flat-out change the law".

The TODAY host pointed out that Trump had retweeted an insane claim that Joe Biden, allegedly tried to have SEAL Team Six murdered, which is reckless at best. "You're not like somebody's insane uncle who can just retweet anything".

Trump also dodged questions about a New York Times investigation of two decades of his tax returns, which he has refused to release publicly despite decades of precedent for presidential candidates.

Trump repeatedly refused to denounce the unfounded conspiracy theory. Following his first presidential debate with Biden, for instance, Trump asserted that he had, in fact, won the war for eyeballs. That decision opened the network to sharp criticism - including a protest letter sent Thursday by more than 100 Hollywood creators and celebrities like Amy Schumer, Seth Rogen, Sterling K. Brown and Sarah Silverman.

During the town hall event, the mother of a transgender child asked Biden how he would protect the LGBTQ community if he were elected president. He has also made some preemptive strikes criticizing NBC News' Kristen Welker, who is scheduled to moderate the second and last debate between Biden and Trump next week.
