iPhone owners that keep their device encased in a leather case while charging it with Apple's new MagSafe Charger may find that the case will have a circular imprint from the contact with the charger.

Be sure to check out the full video, embedded above, to see how poorly some other devices performed when placed on Apple's new magnetic wireless charger. The South China Morning Post quoting a buyer said, "Android phones are often too big". The iPhone 11 for example only accepts 7.5W, so you would expect the MagSafe Charger to be able to meet that. There's a huge catch to this, however - they reportedly charge older iPhones very slowly.

Apple says users should not place credit cards, security badges, passports, or key fobs between the iPhone and MagSafe Charger, because this might damage magnetic strips or RFID chips in those items.

The new iPhone 12 lineup offers a MagSafe feature that offers fast induction charging through new Apple MagSafe chargers, as well as the ability to attach accessories magnetically to the backside of the iPhone. "The iPhone 12 is a tribute to the classic iPhone 5s and is much lighter and thinner, and the user experience is also way better than on Android phones".

The tests indicate that while the Magsafe charger works with older iPhone models, it is significantly slower compared to a variety of Qi-based wireless chargers that are capable of charging iPhone batteries up to an average 25% in half an hour.

Can you charge wireless earphones over MagSafe?

These results also mean that it won't make sense to get the MagSafe charger for use with older iPhone models.

A review from the Wall Street Journal's Joanna Stern revealed that the MagSafe charger works better when it is used to charge an iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro.

So yes, AirPods and AirPods Pro can be charged by a MagSafe charger, even if the magnet doesn't latch on.
