A NY police officer has reportedly been suspended without pay for using the department vehicle's loudspeaker to proclaim his support for President Donald Trump's 2020 campaign.

Enraged city leaders, including the mayor, are vowing action against the officer, and the NYPD said they are investigating the incident.

The department told NBC News on Sunday that the unnamed officer had been suspended, while Police Commissioner Dermot Shea called the officer's conduct "unacceptable" in a tweet.

One of the officers is then heard through the patrol speaker saying: 'Trump 2020. He says "Trump 2020" through the car's loudspeaker and encourages people to record him and post it to their social media.

Before the NYPD announced the repercussions, Mayor Bill de Blasio weighed in - saying, "Any NYPD officer pushing ANY political agenda while on duty will face consequences".

The marked cruiser was filmed while on patrol in Brooklyn's Flatbush neighborhood. He reiterated that the union president does not speak for all officers. "Put it on Facebook". "Take a picture, take a picture, take a video, put it on your Facebook, put it on YouTube".

According to the NYPD patrol guide, members on duty or in uniform are prohibited from "endorsing political candidates or publicly expressing personal views and opinions concerning the merits of: any political party or candidate for public office; any public policy matter or legislation pending before any government body; or any matter to be decided by a pubic election, except with the permission of the police commissioner". "We have no stance in one way or another".

Trump, a Republican, has campaigned for reelection on a law-and-order agenda, portraying himself as a counterweight to the police reform protests that erupted across the U.S.in recent months.

Top NYPD brass also scolded the officer. It is essential for New Yorkers to trust their Police, ' Shea said.

"Meanwhile, NYPD is using taxpayer dollars to blast "Trump 2020" from their loudspeakers," activist Matt Sutton added.

"Any officer who can't or won't do that we have to discipline and we have to address, but I don't get an indication that that is a widespread challenge".
