The 61-year-old World Cup-winning captain was admitted to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in New Delhi on Thursday after he complained of chest pain.

While giving information about Kapil's health on Friday, the hospital said that he is in the ICU and he will be discharged in a few days. "He'll be under regular follow-up consultation with Dr. Atul Mathur", the hospital stated in a statement.

Former India player Chetan Sharma posted a series of pictures via Twitter of Kapil, who was seen being visited by his daughter and then surgeon Dr Atul Mathur. "Pic of @therealkapildev on time of discharge from hospital", his former India teammate Chetan Sharma tweeted along with a photo of Kapil and the doctor who performed the procedure. He is fine and discharged.

Wishing Dev a speedy recovery, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals tweeted, "There's no challenge that the #HaryanaHurricane can't overcome".

One of the greatest of all time, Kapil played global cricket for 18 yeas. After the information of the center assault, many followers together with Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli on social media had prayed for his early restoration.

Under his leadership, India lifted the 1983 World Cup after defeating West Indies in the final which seemed unlikely after India won despite scoring 183 in 60 overs. The veteran from Haryana played for India from 1978 to 1994, played 131 Tests and 225 ODIs. In the longest format of the game, playing primarily as a bowling all-rounder he amassed 5248 runs and picked 434 wickets surpassing Richard Hadlee and was the then highest wicket-taker in Tests.
