Indian man rescued from a freezer dies

Salem / Chennai A odd case of death of a 73-year-old man has come to light in Salem district of Tamil Nadu.

Kumar was instantly taken out and rushed to an area hospital in Salem metropolis, the reviews stated.

Kumar was kept there for 20 hours until undertakers came to collect the body for the funeral the following day and found that he was still moving and gasping for air, the Metro added.

Kumar was later admitted to hospital in a drowsy condition and later died of lung failure, according to Dr Balajinathan, the dean of the government hospital in Salem, Tamil Nadu.

Mr Balasubramanyam was kept in the freezer after he was allegedly declared dead by a private hospital in the southern state of Tamil Nadu on Monday.

He said doctors had no information about how long the patient stayed inside the freezer and whether his death was related to that. As per reports, a case has been registered against the victim's family for negligence.

He said the family took the body home, called a local undertaker to send a freezer box and informed relatives about Tuesday's funeral.

The family has insisted, however, that they had been given a "signed letter" by the doctor at the private hospital in which Balasubramaniakumar was receiving treatment that the man had indeed died.

Balasubramanyam lived with his wife, brother and two daughters. Nevertheless, his relatives called the police, who rescued Kumar from his frozen entrapment on Tuesday.

A video of the incident went viral on social media in which Balasubramania's brother Saravanan was seen saying that his brother is "dead" even when the man behind the camera tells him that Balasubramania's hand is shaking inside the freezer box.
