The outlet's polling conducted by SSRS suggests that about 35 percent of likely voters in Florida acknowledged they have already cast their ballots, with 71 per cent reportedly backing Joe Biden and 27 percent backing Trump.

Democrats have continued to dominate the initial balloting, but Republicans are narrowing the gap.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Voters across NY waited in long lines for hours to cast their ballots in the second day of early voting in the presidential election on Sunday.

In Florida, for example, Democrats have outvoted Republicans by a 596,000 margin by mail, while Republicans only have a 230,000 edge in person. "Standing in line to vote is not a problem".

Campaigns typically push their voters to cast ballots early so they can focus scarce resources chasing more marginal voters as the days tick down to Election Day. That usually saves them money on mailers and digital ads - something the cash-strapped Trump campaign would likely want - and minimizes the impact of late surprises that could change the race.

The long-time red state of Texas hasn't voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since choosing Jimmy Carter over Republican Gerald Ford in 1976. "We do expect them to come out in very high numbers on Election Day".

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who waited in line for 90 minutes to cast her ballot at the Parkchester polling site in the Bronx on Sunday morning, called hourslong wait times at many polling locations unacceptable and a form of voter suppression. Early voting will end in Maryland the day before Election Day, which is Tuesday of next week. But on a whole, voting has gone relatively smoothly.

Just slightly over a week ahead of the U.S. presidential election, a record-breaking turnout of early voters is being registered across the entire country.

More than 7.1 million ballots have already been received in the state, according to the US Elections Project website.

Almost 60% of the 9,800 people who turned out to vote in person last weekend were Democrats. Schenectady County said almost 3,000 of the county's 99,000 active registered voters cast ballots Saturday.
