Chasing 186 for victory, Delhi needed to score 17 off the final over and when Chennai skipper MS Dhoni gave the ball to left-arm spinner Ravi Jadeja, Axar Patel struck three sixes in four balls and the Capitals got home () with a ball to spare. "The options we had were Karn [Sharma] and Jaddu [Ravindra Jadeja], so we went with Jaddu", Dhoni told the broadcasters in his post-match interview. The CSK captain admitted that fielders let the side down. Shikhar Dhawan scored his maiden IPL ton in Capitals' five wicket win.

In the process, he has set a new IPL record by reaching 50 wickets quicker than any other bowler in the history of the tournament. That makes a big difference: "minus 10 when you are batting, and the extra 10 for the team batting second", he said. Despite a well-set Dhawan at the crease, Sam Curran bowled an exceptional 19th over, giving away just four runs to keep CSK in hunt.

The pitch in Sharjah is considered the flattest although run-making has become slightly sluggish in the last couple of matches. "A positive was Sam's last over". He also second-guessed Shardul Thakur and his wide yorker in the 18th over to shuffle across and sweep it to the backward square leg fence. He is not usually confident with that, but today he did well with that. Marcus Stoinis has performed well with both bat and ball and with the game being played at one of the shortest ground, he will fancy his chances to clear the rope on regular intervals.

Dhawan was joined by Shreyas Iyer in the fifth over and the pair scored 12 in the final over of the powerplay, with Iyer hitting a six and Dhawan hit a four to take DC to 42/2. Whenever we give out dressing room Man of the match awards, he is always there.

CSK didn't do themselves any favours by offering him three reprieves - when he was on 27, 50 and 79, and he cost them two valuable points that could've given them some breathing space in the mid-table fight they've found themselves in.

With just five matches each remaining for both the teams, the road ahead is definitely going to be a tough and tricky one, and they know that they can not afford any more lapses from hereon.
