Recall that Twitter became the first major technology company to allow employees who can perform jobs remotely to work from home on a full-time basis in May.

In downtown Seattle, where Amazon is the largest employer, the newly extended work-from-home regime will send new shock waves through the central business district's struggling stores and restaurants.

These policies come as the number of coronavirus cases in the US rises.

Amazon earlier this month said that 19,816 of its front-line employees in the United States tested positive or been presumed positive for the disease.

The company has faced internal concerns about safety in its warehouses amid the coronavirus outbreak and saw workers gather in protest outside of the Amazon fulfillment center in Shakopee, Minn., during this year's annual two-day "Prime Day" sale earlier in October. Samsung Electronics topped the list. It is of its USA front-line employees contracted this year from the world's biggest online reseller. Amazon is also offering extra time off with full pay for those diagnosed with COVID-19.

"We continue to prioritize the health of our employees and follow local government guidance", an Amazon spokeswoman told Bloomberg.

Inc. on Tuesday announced the extension of the timetable on a return to the office.

"Employees who work in a role that can effectively be done from home are welcome to do so until June 30, 2021", an Amazon spokesperson was quoted by Reuters in an emailed statement on Tuesday.

Facebook announced that it would allow its employees to work remotely till July next year, while Google had extended the work from the home period for employees who do not need to be in the office till June.
