Additionally, former Smallville showrunners/developers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are on board as well. Deadline's sources claim that the in-development project has multiple bidders already, but that Netflix is now leading the pack. Burton has to be seen as the ideal choice to head-up a new Addams Family show, right?

This won't be Burton's first step into the world of TV, since he previously executive produced the Beetlejuice animated series in the late '80s and early '90s.

The Addams Family series will also mark Burton's first major foray into live-action television after helping develop and executive produce the animated series adaptation of his 1988 hit movie Beetlejuice. The report also states that the new show takes place in the present, with Wednesday Addams as the POV character. However, his last few films, which include Dumbo and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, haven't quite been up to the director's highest highs, and in the ever changing world of entertainment, a chance to make a long form story with a family IP seems like a good move.

While the famous spooky clan, first created by cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938 famously haunted TV screens (twice), had two big screen live-action outings and are now to be found in animated cinematic form with a sequel due next year, that isn't deterring Burton.

Netflix is reportedly "at the top of the list of landing the project". According to Deadline, Director Tim Burton is developing a revival based on the classic TV show.

We will have more information on this project as it becomes available, but for now, Burton and the Addamses feels like a match made in. well, certainly not heaven, but somewhere.

What do you think of this news?

Now, of course, we have to talk about casting, but I think that Twitter has already done it for us with the fantastic art of Oscar Isaac and Ruth Negga as Gomez and Morticia we saw last week.
