United turn to teenage wonderkid after missing out on Bale

The midfielder hasn't enjoyed his best period under Jose Mourinho, and the idea was Alli would go to Real Madrid on loan for a season, with Bale going the other way.

Now Jose Mourinho, a former manager of Real Madrid, has chose to bring him back to Tottenham and believes he can reignite a faltering team which made it to the Champions' League final in 2019 but has failed to recapture that form despite having quality players like England striker Harry Kane and France's World Cup winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Tottenham Hotspur are close to re-signing Gareth Bale on loan from Real Madrid, according to a report in England.

First, in what looks set to be a major coup for the Lilywhites, Spurs are said to be closing on a double swoop for two Real Madrid players.

He originally joined Los Blancos in 2013 from Spurs in a world-record deal, where he proceeded to prove his worth across a memorable string of performances, helping to fire them to domestic and global glory.

"I tried to sign him during my time at Real Madrid and the president followed my instinct and knowledge and the season I left, he brought Gareth to the club", Mourinho said in a press conference on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old has scored over 100 goals for the Madrid side and won numerous trophies, including four Champions League titles, but was give limited playing time under Zinedine Zidane towards the end of last season's La Liga triumph. "It's not a secret, even Gareth knows that".

Part of the move will be financed by Real Madrid - and Bale is relishing the prospect of reviving his career back in the Premier League.

Whilst Bale and Reguilon will no doubt prove great additions to Jose Mourinho's squad, Tottenham are nevertheless yet to bring in some much-needed back-up for Harry Kane.

In 2012-13 he was crowned Tottenham's Player of the Year and also claimed the PFA Players' Player of the Year, PFA Young Player of the Year, Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season award.

Tottenham is also close to completing the signing of Madrid leftback Sergio Reguilon for around 30 million euros.
