Sony Doesn’t See Xbox Game Pass Idea as ‘Sustainable’ for PlayStation

Contrary to an earlier Bloomberg report, Sony said that it won't have any supply issues when the console goes on sale on November 12th in the US, Japan and other launch regions, and November 19th elsewhere.

PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan has commented on the PS4 community and its importance, but also on those who want "a world of game experiences that are only possible on PS5."In an interview with GIBiz, Ryan mentioned the continuing importance of the PS4 community as PlayStation heads into the next generation of console, saying, "we have the PS4 community, which is going to be incredibly important to us for many years to come".

And lastly, there were a couple of new game announcements thrown in as well, including Final Fantasy XVI, Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, a Harry Potter RPG called Hogwarts Legacy, and a new God of War game that doesn't seem to have an official title yet. PS5's digital edition will be priced at $399 while the Xbox Series S will cost $299.

The new service, called Game Pass Ultimate, will let gamers play an array of titles for a monthly fee of $14.99, with the option to stream games from the Microsoft library to an Xbox, PC or Android phones and tablets, which could help Microsoft reach a broader consumer base.

Ampere Analysis' Piers Harding-Rolls has shared the company's predictions on console sales across the key years of the new generation.

"While these three games were created to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch". The service has experienced a surge in users during the coronavirus pandemic and experienced an 8% rise in subscribers during the April-June period, to over 45 million.

He also notes that Sony has made a number of moves to combat Microsoft's strategy, which includes the cheaper XSS and Game Pass, as an attractive bundle. It has rightly identified this as a key competitive strength and is expected to push the message of "games built specifically for the PS5 platform" heavily in the run up to launch.
