Pop star Selena Gomez has written a message to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and the social network's Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg, urging them to help stop the spread of hate on the platform ahead of the November election.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gomez posted the sensational message on her Instagram Stories on Friday, September 18th.

"It's been a while since we sat down". "I am calling you both to HELP STOP THIS".

Stop Hate for Profit was started by nine civil rights equality organisations, including the Anti-Defamation League, Color of Change, and the NAACP and according to its website, is 'a diverse and growing coalition that wants Facebook to take common-sense steps to address the rampant racism, disinformation and hate on its platform'.

Moreover Selena called on Zuckerberg and Sandberg to 'shut down groups and users focused on spreading hate speech, violence and misinformation'.

Selena fears that social media platforms are misused to spread hate and wrong information! "Our future depends on it".

Selena's post comes days after stars including Kim Kardashian and Jamie Foxx joined the #StopHateForProfit initiative on Facebook and shut down their social media pages for 24 hours.

Earlier this month, Facebook announced it would ban new political ads the week before the November 3 presidential election, along with voting misinformation, such as posts that suggest people will get COVID-19 if they head to the polls. People can not be misled with all the wrong information about voting which might indirectly harm the whole system, the singer explained. "There has to be fact-checking and accountability".

Moreover, Selena's shared her message with her 193 million Instagram followers after other celebrities stopped posting on Wednesday on Facebook and Instagram, which is owned by Facebook.

She was optimistic and wrote, "Hope to hear back from you ASAP".
