The French Open qualifying got underway on Monday ahead of its Sunday main draw start, with five players having withdrawn due to either their own positive coronavirus tests or those of an associated coach. "And today I played my best, and that's why these kind of individual sports are really nice to watch because we can do this".

Against Schwartzman, who was playing his first Masters 1000 final, Djokovic recovered from a 3-0 deficit in the opening set and eventually wore down the steady Argentine to finish off the match in just under 2 hours - and just before it began raining.

Soon after winning the title in Italy, Novak had to answer the obvious question about who is the favorite to win the Roland Garros.

Djokovic defeated Diego Schwartzman in Monday's final to pick up his first clay-court title of the season as he enjoyed the flawless build-up to the next big Grand Slam tournament of the year, the French Open.

Ruud, 21, the first Norwegian to play in a Masters 1000 semifinal and a product of Rafael Nadal's academy, put up plenty of resistance and also produced the shot of the day: a leaping over-the-shoulder hook shot for a victor as he raced back to chase down a lob - earning a thumbs-up from Djokovic.

Djokovic was infamously booted out of the US Open after striking a line judge with a ball after an angry on-court outburst. "It's been a good week, even if I haven't played my best tennis".

Simona Halep lifted her first Italian Open prize on yesterday, a certainty help in front of the following week's French Open, in the wake of protecting hero Karolina Pliskova resigned harmed in the Rome last. That makes me very satisfied and proud.

Halep wished Pliskova a speedy recovery entering Roland Garros.

Halep, who lost the 2017 and 2018 Rome finals to Elina Svitolina, extended her ideal record in tennis' restart to 10-0. I have three titles already.

"It was growing worse and worse with every day", she said. I'm just going to tell myself I need revenge on myself and I'm going to win everything.

"It's just another tournament".

The second-ranked Halep is 13-0 overall stretching back to February, when she won a title in Dubai.
