All eight teams have been in strict, bio-secure "bubbles" since landing in the UAE, with the competition set to kick off when defending champions Mumbai Indians take on Chennai Super Kings in Abu Dhabi on September 19.

"Lynn is a great addition to the squad, but the combination of Rohit and Quinton did a phenomenal job for us last season", Jayawardene said in a virtual press conference from Abu Dhabi. "As a team, we keep all options open".

"Even when I play for India, message from my side to the management has always been the same "do not close any doors" keep all the options open and I will do the same here as well", he said.

"I opened for the entire tournament a year ago and will continue to do that".

Rohit felt that correct reading of conditions would be crucial to his team's fortunes in the upcoming tournament. However, it is not that the team with the most experience has been successful every time but such teams do earn an edge. "We have played a couple of practice matches and we understood what we need to expect going out there", he added. The way I look at it, we've got good balance and variety in our bowling attack.

About playing in the UAE, Rohit said: "The challenge for us would be to adapt to these conditions".

Rohit stressed the team is keeping "all options open" but will start the tournament as an opener.

The venues for the games include Dubai and Sharjah. So we certainly expect the same, as it is going to be a long tournament.

".there will be some reverse swing and we have got some good quality in our line-up as well, who can explore that". Krunal Pandya is their most experienced spinner with 55 IPL caps but the others in the squad - Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav and Anukul Roy - have a combined IPL experience of only 29 games.

Speaking about the association, Mark Titus - Director Marketing, Nippon Paint (India) Private Limited (Decorative Division) said, "We are thrilled to yet again team up with IPL's most venerated team, the Chennai Super Kings, as associate sponsors". Not a lot of cricketers from our group have played here.
