Jason Sudeikis had previously played the role back when he was a cast member.

"The physical problems of doing it - number of people who can be in the studio, number of people who can be in the control room, how you separate the band so that they're not in any jeopardy - all of those are part of the meetings we've been having", he said.

Back for more: Maya Rudolph, who left the show full-time in 2007, is expected to play vice presidential candidate Sen.

'Jim Carrey is going to do Biden, ' Saturday Night Live's Lorne Michaels revealed in an interview with Vulture. Presumably, Rudolph will resume her impersonation of Biden's running mate, California Sen. Here's what Michaels had to say.

The current cast of the series, which was last on the air May 9, includes Beck Bennett, Aidy Bryant, Michael Che, Pete Davidson, Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner, Colin Jost, Kate McKinnon, Alex Moffat, Kyle Mooney, Chris Redd, Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson and Melissa Villaseñor. He and I as well. He will give the part energy and strength, and ... "[Laughs.] Hopefully it's amusing", Michaels added.

Presumably there will be plenty of work for both him and Carrey as "SNL" ramps up to cover the Presidential election season: NBC said that the show will broadcast five new episodes to start its season, from October 3 through October 31.

It has not yet been revealed just how limited the crowds will be in the studio but it is expected to be small, as most late-night talk shows are still proceeding with no audience.

Actor Alec Baldwin as US President Donald Trump on SNL.

"We need the audience, obviously".

"We're trying to make sure that everyone is safe and protected and looked after", Michaels told Vulture. With the kind of comedy we do, which quite often is broad, timing gets thrown off without an audience. But a few new faces will be showing up in Studio 8H, including Punkie Johnson, Lauren Holt and Andrew Dismukes.

Michaels is also slightly changing up the airing format to cover the presidential election. NBC has also said that all previous cast members from last season will also return for season 46.

Jim Carrey is an interesting choice for Biden.
