Following the release of their acclaimed second album, A Hero's Death, last week, Fontaines D.C. are now positioned at No.1 on the United Kingdom midweek albums chart - fighting off tough competition from Taylor Swift's Folklore, which sits at No.2.

Taylor is the first artist to ever debut at number one on both of these charts!

The 30-year-old singer debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart with Folklore and now it has been announced that the lead single "Cardigan" has debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is also Taylor's sixth song to reach the top of the Hot 100.

Within the first 24 hours, the on-demand audio streams surpassed 72 million, breaking a record previously set by Ariana Grande's 2019 album Thank U, Next, which stood at 55.9 million.

It's the biggest debut for an album since her last year's "Lover", which started out with 867,000 units. Swift is a co-writer on the song, which she also co-produced alongside Jack Antonoff and The National's Aaron Dessner.

Swift's label, Republic Records, said global sales for "Folklore" have passed 2 million.

According to Billboard, folklore's units are made up of 615,000 album sales, 218,000 streaming equivalent albums (racking up 289.85 million streams total) and 13,000 track equivalent albums.

After a week, folklore is already the best-selling album of 2020 with those 615,000 copies, surpassing BTS" "Map Of The Soul: 7', which was released in February and has sold 574,000 copies so far.

By comparison, Swift's last album Lover, which was released past year, racked up 55 million streams in the first 24 hours after release.

Swift also becomes the only artist in history with seven albums to sell at least 500,000 copies in a single week.
