The SEC has pushed back the first allowable start of football practice from this Friday to August 17, the conference announced Tuesday.

"This new plan for a football schedule is consistent with the educational goals of our universities to allow for the safe and orderly return to campus of their student populations and to provide a healthy learning environment during these unique circumstances presented by the COVID-19 virus", SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said.

This new preseason calendar is in adjustment to the SEC football season starting later than usual, on September 26th. Originally, practice was scheduled to start August 7.

Starting on August 17 and leading up to their opening games, schools will be allowed 25 practices with a limit of 20 hours per week.

Due to the pandemic, last week the SEC announced that the 2020 season will consist of 10, conference-only games. Practices are limited to two days in helmets only, two days in helmets, two days in partial pads and one day in full pads. A modified schedule has not yet been released.

The SEC announced the team will have a break between more intense walkthroughs and the start of camp, scaling back to the 14-hour weeks of conditioning, walkthroughs without a ball or pads, and film work. There must be two days off each week and a maximum of 20 hours of countable activities per week.
