Man City needs Champions League glory to reach next level, says Walker

A diluted version of the Champions League could play into City's hands, as they have highlighted their knock-out credentials by dominating competitions on home soil over the last few years, winning six domestic cup tournaments in England since 2014.

However, the enormous financial gap between the clubs is highlighted by the fact that Lyon have to routinely sell their prized assets with Nabil Fekir, Tanguy Ndombele and Ferland Mendy all departing last summer, while City have the resources to keep throwing money at the dream of winning the Champions League.

The Portuguese added "It will be very special to win it". For me, even more so because it's my city and it's an extra motivation to fight for the trophy here. Memphis Depay has been Lyon's star in the Champions League so far this campaign. This year they don't have the players that they had when we played against them but you need to be a very good team, very disciplined, to beat Juventus over two legs. This one is the only one we haven't won.

"This is the competition that makes the club now and makes those players more than the legends they already are in the eyes of City fans". I'm very happy and looking forward to the game to arrive. "It was good to be able to spend the last part of the day here, in my city".

Lyon haven't been the best at defending against wide players this season so this could be a ideal matchup for Raheem Sterling down the left.

"Anything can happen, Juventus were knocked out by Lyon, we lost against Tottenham Hotspur a year ago in the quarter-finals", Silva told the City website.

Midfielder Bernardo stated: "The Champions League is the only competitors we still have not won at this club".

Now Quinn is predicting City will click into top gear as they target their dream, with last week's win against Real Madrid highlighting a renewed focus for a side that showed signs of frailty over the course of the English season. "It's very hard to predict the results in this competition", he said.
