India’s capacity to be crucial when effective vaccine is ready: Anthony Fauci

Fauci, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Robert Redfield and Assistant HHS Secretary Brett Giro on Friday testified before the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus. While making this point, Scalise ignored the fact that the government is still yet to issue any mandatory rules on the matter, all the while there are more than 150,000 virus-related deaths and the number keeps growing.

Fauci, who made headlines in March by describing USA testing efforts as a failing, repeatedly handed off questions about the current state of testing from Democrats critical of Trump to get him to characterize the current situation to witnesses more directly involved with that effort.

Giroir, the testing czar, told reporters Thursday, "I think it's very important to make sure that we all spread the public health message that we can control all the outbreaks occurring right now". This testing, and what we have so quickly done, is used as a Fake News weapon.

Fauci said the reason for the surge in cases boiled down to some states not following gateway guidelines that recommended only loosening restrictions when certain parameters were reached.

Dr. Fauci added he hopes other countries are taking the necessary precautions before actually using the vaccine.

Carlson credited Jordan for the exchange and said, "There is nothing Dr. Anthony Fauci won't opine on as long as it doesn't offend the popular and fashionable left".

On hydroxychloroquine - a drug Trump touted early on in the pandemic despite firm data that it was effective in treating patients - Fauci said the "overwhelming" evidence is that the drug doesn't work.

"I'm not in a position to determine what the government can do in a forceful way", Fauci responded.

Once a coronavirus vaccine is approved as safe and effective, Americans should have widespread access within a reasonable time, Fauci has assured lawmakers. "If you believe that all the people you love and that care for you think you should get the vaccine, you are more likely to get it", she said. Fauci said a COVID-19 vaccine may not be available to all Americans immediately, but in phases.

Trump also praised a fiery challenge of Fauci by Ohio Republican Jim Jordan on Fauci's recommendation that Americans avoid crowds.

A veteran of six Republican and Democratic administrations, Fauci has become the most familiar face of the administration's coronavirus task force but a target of many conservatives who want to see the state economies fully reopened.

The current pandemic has shown that COVID-19 hits some communities at higher rates, especially African Americans and Latinos, where the disparities are fueled in part by underlying health conditions and structural discrimination. "You make comments on dating, on baseball and everything you could imagine".

"Should we limit the protesting?"

Fauci said his job was to communicate health risks, not decide whether the government should block protests.

"I don't judge one crowd versus another crowd", he said.

"Crowding together, particularly when you're not wearing a mask, contributes to the spread of the virus". "Big progress being made!"
