St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina announced on social media Tuesday that he was one of the Cardinals to have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The nine-time All-Star revealed his results Tuesday in a Spanish-language Instagram post. "I will do everything within my power to return as soon as possible for Cardinals fans, the city of St. Louis and my teammates".

Soon afterward, the Cardinals issued a release naming six of the players who have tested positive. As I recover, I request that you respect my and my family's privacy during my absence from the team.

The Cardinals said Tuesday that six players had made a decision to grant permission to have their names revealed.

TAYLOR COUNTY-Unless conditions improve drastically in the next few weeks (or even days), Major League Baseball might call it quits much sooner than expected after it's shortened 2020 season hit COVID-19 snags nearly immediately.

The Cardinals announcement puts the team just behind the league-leading Miami Marlins, which last week recorded 21 positive coronavirus tests and triggered questions about whether holding a baseball season is perhaps not a good thing to do during an out-of-control viral outbreak.

The Cardinals are tentatively scheduled to return to action Friday at home against the Chicago Cubs. Currently, the team is quarantined in Milwaukee, where it had been scheduled to play the Brewers this weekend - instead, they'll keep hanging out in their hotel rooms.

Sunday's testing is being fast-tracked, sources said. The other eight had minor symptoms including headaches, coughs, sniffles and low-grade fevers.
