Has that changed? Will he graduate high school in 2022, as now scheduled, or will he move up the timeline? He is a 16-year-old small forward player.

"I know they're showing that their love is genuine, and they've just been here for a long time", Bates said. "So I got to show them love back".

Bates is hands down the top prospect in the Class of 2022 and he is considered by many to be the best prep prospect since LeBron James. "As I do know right now, I will be committing to Michigan State University", said Emoni in an interview to SportsCenter. "I'm big on loyalty, and they showed me all loyalty".

It's unclear if Bates plans on reclassifying to the 2021 class, which would make him eligible to enter college a year ahead of schedule.

Bates thanked Spartans head coach Tom Izzo, noting that Izzo and the program have been recruiting him since he was in seventh grade. That's a big key in basketball, and people don't understand that. "He is absolutely an unbelievable guy, overall".

Kendrick Perkins called the move "Madness", as in his twitter post he wrote "Emoni Bates to Michigan State? Ha!" He is the first native to be named the Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year. His father coaches him.
