It looks as if there will be a gentle split in OnePlus' strategy between its high-end flagships and these more modest Nord devices. Meanwhile, OnePlus will be holding an event in India in just two days from now where a new series of affordable TVs will be revealed. The new phone will be the first in the "affordable smartphone product line" that OnePlus is bringing next month to improve its market position and reach new users.

OnePlus has been keeping us guessing concerning its upcoming affordable smartphone but the company put all guessing to rest by announcing that the name will be called OnePlus Nord.

While OnePlus hasn't confirmed the exact OnePlus Nord price, we wouldn't be surprised if "below $500" translates to $499.

"Launching the OnePlus Nord product line marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for OnePlus". The invitation system, which was used by the company to prevent it from building too many units, was dropped starting with 2016's OnePlus 3. That mindset changed with the OnePlus 8 Pro as the company obtained an IP68 rating for the phone.

The OnePlus Nord will boast the excellent Snapdragon 765G chipset and we're expecting at least 6GB of RAM and up to 12GB of RAM. The display will have support for 90Hz refresh rate and there will also be 3W charging onboard. OnePlus has also confirmed that it will also host a limited beta program (after launch) so a select number of users in North America will also get a chance to experience the new device. Despite previous renders pointing a triple-camera setup, the device will be carrying a Quad-Camera array with a 64MP primary shooter.
