India’s Reliance Jio Launched Zoom-like App For Free

This is possibly one of the biggest reasons why Indians would (like to) pick up JioMeet over Zoom, a service that has come under the radar for being "influenced" by China until very recently to impact user accounts outside of its borders.

Text size and the colour scheme were the only differentiators between Zoom and JioMeet.

The app is one facet of Ambani's rapidly expanding digital empire, which includes India's largest telecom operator with almost 400 million users. Indian telecommunications company Reliance Jio also wants a slice of the cake and has launched its own approach to video conferencing, JioMeet.

Other highlights include easy sign up with either mobile number or email ID, meeting in HD audio and video quality. The service, called JioMeet, is most similar to Zoom but has more flexibility than nearly any other video conferencing app.

JioMeet offers unlimited meetings per day and each meeting can go uninterrupted up to 24 hours. You can choose to enable or disable it. Moreover, there's a digital waiting room so that the host gets to approve who attends the meeting. The company promises that you can seamlessly switch from one device to the other while you're on a call.

JioMeet can be used for creating instant meetings to chat with friends and also to schedule a meeting in advance and share meeting details with invitees. And now, it's up with a new service, video conferencing.

"The current market dynamics will potentially provide enough tailwinds to JioMeet to gain currency, on the back of its features, such as no limits on call durations, and seamless switching between devices", Prabhu Ram, Head-Industry Intelligence Group, CyberMedia Research (CMR), told IANS.

The calls, according to the JioMeet's website, are encrypted but there is no clarity around what kind of encryption this is. There's an option to enter as a guest as well or by using an OTP. You can choose to mute or unmute participants when they join.
