Ghislaine Maxwell Pleads Not Guilty in Jeffrey Epstein Sex Crimes Case

The New York Post says Maxwell briefly hung her head down to the floor amid the judge's ruling that she wouldn't be allowed out of jail until her trial next year. Annie Farmer, waiving her right to anonymity, said: "She is a sexual predator who groomed and abused me and other young women". Prosecutors said she was involved in some of the abuse herself.

"Not guilty, your honour", Ms Maxwell said, after the judge asked her how she wished to plead to the charges.

By pleading not guilty, Ghislaine Maxwell, 35 years, immediately rejected any collaboration with the American justice. Now their efforts could sink a key legal defense for Ghislaine Maxwell, who was charged this month with luring girls so Epstein could abuse them.

Maxwell's trial date was set for July 12, 2021.

Prosecutors said Tuesday the "investigation remains ongoing but at this point, we do not now anticipate seeking a superseding indictment" with additional charges or naming more defendants.

Its protection, despite the gravity of the charges, has put the issue of release Gilane Maxwell bail at $ 5 million.

"The court considers that the government has discharged its burden of showing on a preponderance of evidence that the accused is in danger of fleeing and that no combination of conditions could guarantee her presence at trial", a declared judge Alison Nathan, whose image was also projected on a large screen.

The two and a half hourlong hearing was also the first time the court has heard from the alleged victims. She said that she will give the passports and will not travel much to New York, Eastern, and Southern districts.

It's reported that Maxwell appeared in court yesterday from the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, wearing a brown T-shirt, and had her attorney Mark Cohen with her. "At a basic level, the defense argument is that she can not remember off the top of her head just how many millions of dollars she has", Moe told the judge.

The U.S. attorney's office has argued Maxwell is a flight risk, citing her citizenship in three countries, including her birthplace of France, which does not extradite citizens. She said Maxwell "lied under oath and tormented her survivors".

"Without Ghislaine, Jeffrey could not have done what he did", an unidentified accuser added in a statement. Epstein killed himselfin jail last August. Farmer could be heard reading her statement, but was not shown on video. Five weeks after he was arrested and charged with trafficking minors, Jeffrey Epstein was found lifeless in the Manhattan federal prison cell, where he was being held pending trial. Epstein has been linked socially to several powerful figures including US President Donald Trump, former US president Bill Clinton and Britain's Prince Andrew.

Striking several of the same chords as Doe, Farmer noted that Maxwell has vast global contacts who would likely help her evade arrest and exact vengeance on those who dare to speak out about their treatment. She didn't tell them where she was through the investigation, bounced around locations, and looked at her New Hampshire home under an alias.
