Four matches will be played each day during the group stage of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, FIFA has announced.

Where will the opening match and final take place?

The Al Bayt Stadium which has a capacity of 60,000 people will witness the tournament opener on November 21, 2022, at 13:00 local time (10:30 PM IST). Kickoff times for the final group-stage games and knockouts are set for 6 pm and 10 pm local time, or 10 am and 2 pm on the East Coast.

The final on December 18 will be held at the 80,000 Lusail Stadium, which, along with Al Bayt, will also host a semifinal.

World Cup fans will be able to watch an unprecedented four games a day on TV, spread out over 11 hours, during the group stage of the Qatar 2022 tournament after the schedule was confirmed on Wednesday.

"The tournament's compact nature - with no air travel needed to move between the venues - will allow organizers, for the first time, to optimize specific match demands for the benefit and comfort of fans, teams and media".

The group fixtures will be decided after the March 2022 global match calendar qualifying window. Once the pairings are known, the possibility will be discussed of providing a more beneficial kick-off time for audiences at home, or indeed for fans in Qatar with regard to the stadium allocation. The announcement comes two years to the day since the 2018 World Cup final.

That additional flexibility is possible without affecting any technical aspects since all stadiums are located within a compact radius and the climate is ideal at that time of year in Qatar, whether it is an early or a late kick-off. In a joint statement, Federation Internationale de Football Association and Qatar's Supreme Committee organisational body said that the gas-rich Gulf nation will start the World Cup at the 60,000-capacity ground on November 21.

With the relatively short travel distances for the venues in and around Doha, it could be possible for fans who travel to the 32-team tournament to attend multiple games each day.
