Tom Meighan, ex-Kasabian singer, arrives at Leicester Magistrates' Court, Leicester, England, Tuesday July 7, 2020.

Fans were also informed that Meighan plans to "concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track".

In response, Meighan himself posted that he was "in a really good place now".

The court heard Vikki Ager suffered bruising to her knees, left elbow, outer ankle and big toe as well as a reddening around the neck, which she confirmed to police was as a result of the assault.

On Tuesday they said they had decided they "could no longer work with him" as soon as they found out about the charges.

"There is not any way we could recondition his assault conviction".

The group continued:"Finally, as far as Tom has hurt us all, we are not exactly the victim in all this". Meighan did not get jail time but was sentenced to 200 hours of public service and is required to complete five days of rehabilitation. "Domestic violence is something which could never be excused".

Meighan said the band was "solid" and were planning their seventh album, despite the gig's cancellation leaving Kasabian "broken-hearted".

Prosecutor Naeem Valli said a child witnessed the assault and contacted 999 to say a "domestic incident was taking place".

The case came a day after Meighan quit the band, releasing a statement saying he was dealing with "personal issues". I've got a few cookies in the jar. and they're not bad, you know. Thanks for all your love and support.

The district judge, Nick Watson, told the singer: "I could have sent you to prison for this" as he ordered him to carry out unpaid work for what he described as a "sustained attack" that was a "violation of the trust and security that should exist between partners".

Since the CCTV footage has been performed on court, Meighan left his eyes with a tissue and then held his head in his palms.

39-year-old Meighan has been Kasabian's lead vocalist since they formed in 1997.

Meighan's passing from Kasabian renders guitarist Serge Pizzorno and bass player Chris Edwards since the sole remaining founding members, together with present drummer Ian Matthews linking the band 2004.
