Brazil's presidency said in a statement the result of the test will be known on Tuesday.

SAO PAULO (AP) - Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was tested for COVID-19 after having an X-ray of his lungs on Monday. "I went to do a Covid exam a while ago, but everything is okay", he said. Pictures of the event showed neither wearing a mask.

Brasil and newspaper Estado de S.Paulo reported that the president had symptoms of the disease, such as a fever. "We do not confirm this information at this moment".

Brazil's Supreme Court published documents in May showing that Bolsonaro tested negative three times in March after meeting with President Trump in Florida.

Concerns are mounting that the virus may continue to spread in Brazil where more than 1.6 million infections have been reported, the second-highest number after the United States.

As cases begin to dramatically increase again, hospitals are at or close to intensive care unit capacity, and personal protective equipment and testing supplies are running low, the groups say that numerous hard-won gains against Covid-19 are being erased.

He also said he was taking hydroxychloroquine as a preventive measure.

He had already watered down the bill Friday by vetoing several articles, such as requiring employers to supply face masks for their staff and another mandating that public authorities should provide face coverings for "economically vulnerable people".

"Our life has to go on". He has maintained that position, arguing that the economic fallout of lockdown could be worse than the virus itself. The order has since been overturned.

On Monday, Bolsonaro was seen in public wearing a face mask and reportedly told a supporter not to come too close. Check your state's restrictions on gathering limits.
