Vivo shakes things up with new gimbal-equipped X50 Pro camera phone

Vivo might not be one of the names you think of when it comes to mobile phones, but they want to change that impression with their newly announced flagship phones for 2020, called the X50 series.

The Vivo X50 Pro+ will be available in three storage variants which include 8GB RAM + 128GB storage for price CNY 4,998 (around Rs. 53,000), while the 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant is priced at CNY 5,498 (around Rs. 58,300). "As the first X series products that will be made available to global markets, we are excited to share the best of our innovative technology and design concepts with people around the world". There is no timeline or pricing mentioned in the post. Vivo X50 is also the slimmest 5G phone to date. As for internals, it draws power from a Snapdragon 765G chipset, coupled with 8GB of RAM, 128GB/256GB of storage, and a 4,315mAh battery.

Vivo X50 The Vivo X50 sports similar specifications to its "Pro" counterpart with a few differences. The phone will come wrapped in either dark blue glass or camel-colored vegan leather.

Furthermore, the phone has come with a 4,200 mAh battery with 33W charging support. The secondary camera is a 13 Megapixel 2X Telephoto, and there is a third 8 Megapixel ultrawide camera. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G powers the phone and the device has a 6.56-inch AMOLED with an FHD+ resolution. It has a display that supports up to 120Hz refresh rate as well.

We first heard about this enhanced OIS when Vivo prototyped the feature with one of its concept phones earlier this year.

The Vivo X50 is loaded with a 4200mAh battery with 33W fast charging support. At the same time, both devices have a 32-megapixel selfie camera. The Vivo X50 starts at CNY 3,498 (about Rs 37,000) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. Funtouch OS 10.5 based on Android 10.0 runs out of the box.

In terms of optics, the quad-camera setup of the handset includes a 48MP main sensor, a 13MP portrait camera, an 8MP wide-angle lens, and a 5MP macro lens on the back panel. The X50 Pro's camera uses the new 50-megapixel, 1/1.3-inch Samsung ISOCELL GN1 sensor, and the X50 and X50 Pro will have a periscope zoom feature.

Reflecting vivo's design-driven innovation, X50 series smartphones are built with flexible screens, which are slimmer, lighter, and more durable than traditional screens. On the connectivity front, it supports 5G SA/ NSA, Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, NFC, USB Type-C and dual-SIM support.
