As they explain it, Creative Assembly took the deal for a number of reasons. Some people have reacted unfavourably to the decision whereas few others are asking if and when it's coming to Steam.

"Thanks to Epic, we're able to offer a Total War title for free on its launch day".

As GameSpot reports, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney recently gave a video interview to the website as part of the summer gaming celebration and charity effort called "Play For All".

"If you're not into games like Satisfactory, you're not going to go out and spend money to buy Satisfactory". He was asked to reveal any future plans he had for the Epic Games Store, to which Sweeney responded, "We'd like to bring the [Epic Games] Store to iOS in the future, and we will bring it to Android".

Creative Assembly wanted to introduce the Total War series to a brand new audience, and the Epic deal allowed for that opportunity.

" It was a hard decision, and you can be assured that there were a lot of differing opinions in the studio, and a lot of discussions about it - which largely focussed on what it would mean for you, the players".

Troy will no longer be launching on Steam. We'll be sure to remind you when it's time to pick it up.

With the massive expansion of Unreal Engine 4, Epic Games has pushed hard to create a solid ecosystem of tools and services for developers creating games on mobile platforms. Plus, it's free to keep for the first 24 hours, which is great news for fans of the Total War series.
