Whilst information are somewhat slim on the ground, you can anticipate Metallic Slug Code: J to be free-to-perform.

Metal Slug appears to be back from the dead thanks to SNK and Pokemon Unite (COD and PUBG Mobile, too) developer TiMi Studios.

Aside from the gameplay reveals, Tencent did not announce when we would be expecting the games to be released on their respective platforms.

"We're happy to work closely with such a strong developer as TiMi Studios on this latest Metal Slug title".

It's also important to note that Code: J is only a working title, and before anyone starts grumping about the next Metal Slug game being designed for mobile, just remember that SNK has its own console entry in the works.

"Metal Slug has such an fantastic history of great action and gameplay so we're proud to bring this to mobile gamers around the world", said SNK's Yasuyuki Oda in a press release. While I won't personally get my hopes up, I do have to say it would be nice to get a proper update to the Metal Slug series on mobile that isn't filled to the brim with greedy monetization.

The trailer for the cellular recreation showcases Metal Slug's trademark side-scrolling shoot-'em-up motion, while with noteworthy adjustments that include things like current graphics, a new ice-thrower weapon, and on-display screen controls.

TiMi Games has a solid track record when it comes to porting classic video game franchises to mobile, so there's reason to be optimistic if you're a Metal Slug fan.
