The match will still go ahead with James Ward taking Murray's place, before Evans takes on Kyle Edmund in the final.

The 28th-ranked Evans defeated British No. 2 Kyle Edmund, 6-3, 6-2, in one hour and 18 minutes at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton, England.

"Thanks to everyone who has worked at the tournament, all the players have loved it - they've been raving about it".

Evans made an immediate impression by breaking Edmund in the opening game and, although he was immediately broken back, soon pulled clear and broke twice more as Edmund's errors on key points cost dearly.

The three-time Grand Slam victor battled hard to take the first set, and then fought back from a break down in the second to take the match 6-3 7-5.

In Friday's action, Evans and Edmund completed the group stage with 100 per cent records.

Andy Murray had a successful week at the Battle of the Brits, playing four matches in five days before losing to British number one and eventual victor Dan Evans in the semi-finals. "Hopefully, we can do it all again". I wasn't too down going to the chair after the first set, I just needed to change a few things.

Murray said: "I'm okay - it's just that this week is by far the most I've done in seven months". At times I played well and at times my level dropped.

At the changeover at the stop of the first set, his mentor Jamie Delgado mentioned: "He's played a fantastic established of tennis".

"I've been feeling it a little bit and obviously I've played three matches, the last two were a pretty high level, it's been tough but I did quite well". "My game is there, I just need more time to practise and prepare and I'll get there".

Murray has indicated his next event is likely to be the Citi Open in Washington, scheduled to start on August 14.

The 30-year-old Evans lived up to his reputation as the nation's number one by going unbeaten through the round-robin singles tournament, culminating in an emphatic 6-3 6-2 final win.
